For its effective implementation of environmental conservation, sustainable development, and green initiatives, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has secured first rank in the state under ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 5.0’, achieving the top position for the third consecutive year. In recognition of this remarkable achievement, the civic body has been awarded a cash prize of Rs 10 crore.
At a state-level felicitation ceremony, Governor Acharya Devvrat and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar presented the memento and certificate of honour to Mayor Ravi Landge and Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar.
Also present were Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, Environment and Climate Change Minister Pankaja Munde, Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, Secretary of the Environment and Climate Change Department Jayashree Bhoj, along with senior municipal officials.
The ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 5.0’, implemented by the Maharashtra Government’s Environment and Climate Change Department from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, evaluated cities based on environmental performance indicators aligned with the five elements of nature—Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Sky.
In the category of cities with a population exceeding 10 lakh, the PCMC secured the top position in the final state rankings.
Under the campaign, the civic body demonstrated impactful execution in areas such as solid waste management, source-level waste segregation, floral waste recycling projects, single-use plastic elimination drives, sewage treatment projects, water conservation initiatives, solar energy adoption, and expansion of green cover.
Securing first rank for three consecutive years stands as strong evidence of Pimpri Chinchwad’s sustainable, planned, and environmentally focused progress. The achievement has positioned the city as a model for other local self-governing bodies in the state.
Mayor Ravi Landge said, “Securing first rank in the state under the ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ campaign for the third consecutive year is a proud and historic moment for all citizens of Pimpri Chinchwad. This success belongs to the entire city its elected representatives, citizens, NGOs, educational institutions, industries, and all stakeholders who actively participated in the mission.”
Commissioner Shravan Hardikar said, “Our city’s journey toward sustainable development is progressing rapidly. Through technology-based management, transparent implementation, and active public participation, we have achieved significant improvements in environmental parameters. We remain committed to building a greener, cleaner, and environmentally sustainable city.”
